A former ADVANPURE contract partner (DPF service and reverse-direction cleaning) tried to increase his income by bypassing the contract agreement. He believed that the diesel particulate filter (DPF) could be cleaned directly on the vehicle instead of being removed and sent for reverse-direction machine cleaning
“They wouldn’t lie—after all, they’re sponsors of the World Rally Championship”, he probably thought.
However, he charged the customer the full price, as if the DPF had undergone the proper reverse-direction cleaning process. In reality, he simply sprayed the filter with the contents of a small bottle using a hand pump.
Triple the profit in a fraction of the time—or so he thought. But the “world-class” manufacturer clearly lied on the label.
This article explains why these so-called “miracle drops” don’t work, even if they bear the most prestigious logos.
When I asked one of their technicians, he said:
"Everyone else is selling it online, so if I don’t offer it, someone else will. It’s a hit. So why not sell it if people want it so badly? It’s like cigarettes—everyone knows they’re harmful, but tons of them get sold anyway. And even if it ends up killing the filter, most cars still somehow pass the emissions test. So, in a way, they save money".
Most car manufacturers strictly prohibit the use of any chemicals in DPF filters in their service manuals. They state that a vehicle equipped with a DPF, as sold, operates reliably with standard diesel fuel and the appropriate engine oil—provided that everything in the vehicle is functioning correctly and regular maintenance is performed.
What can happen if you start pouring additives into your car and applying a so-called miracle solution into the filter? You'll find some examples below the images, and more in-depth information via the link to a reference diagnostic case. Everything is described in detail, including how one customer managed to escape the mess by sheer miracle with his last attempt.
A close-up view of the DPF filter from the engine side reveals traces of some white sludge. It's a foolish idea to believe that you can clean the filter by simply pouring in a chemical and then starting the engine. Yet, such methods are promoted by renowned global oil companies—who even produce instructional videos showcasing this approach. Logically speaking, who would ever think that, instead of emptying a vacuum cleaner bag, they could just pour liquid into the hose and expect all the collected debris to vanish without a trace?
Despite being available at every gas station and being bombarded with targeted advertising and unbeatable promises, they are fundamentally ineffective and can even endanger your vehicle.
The liquid chemical rapidly evaporates when it contacts the hot exhaust gases, and its volume increases by 1600 times. Hairline cracks inside the DPF can be caused by this. Detached pieces start to break off due to vibrations. Over time, the filter partially breaks down, losing its ability to perform its function permanently.
Renowned racers praise the products and videos show happy faces. They persuade customers into a very risky venture with minimal chances of success. A successful business with an unsuccessful outcome. These media campaigns don’t show how the car’s behavior changes, and they certainly don’t mention how customers ended up after a few months.
The control unit is guided solely by the differential pressure maps across the DPF. The resistance caused by that gunk is being interpreted as too frequent regenerations, which is causing the car to increasingly run in limp mode with the emissions warning light on.
