Závěr

VOZIDLO JSEM NEOPRAVOVAL, PROVÁDĚL JSEM DIAGNOSTICKÉ PRÁCE

The customer brought the vehicle in for a coolant leak diagnosis. A leak into the combustion chamber was suspected initially, which would have entailed a costly repair. Therefore, he asked us to confirm if the coolant was leaking into the combustion chamber.

The gas analyser confirmed that the coolant contains gases generated during combustion, mainly CO2. Since I wasn't sure if the exhaust gases were coming into contact with the coolant somewhere else on this engine, I performed a relative compression test which identified the cause.

Coolant is entering cylinder no. 7. Not only will the engine have a combustion problem on this cylinder, but there's a risk of damage to the connecting rod and other components.

LOG recording of gases in the coolant tank (15763/12)

The gas analyser showed that gases resulting from combustion were present in the coolant tank, which is clear evidence that the combustion chamber has an issue with cooling circuit integrity.

Relative compression test (15763/14)

A relative compression test with synchronisation revealed the problem with cylinder no. 7, which is the driver's side cylinder head.

Exhaust smoke (15763/15)

After pressurising the system by driving and shutting it down until the next day, the pressure moved from the system to cylinder no. 7. This caused an increase in compression. The risk is that the connecting rod can be distorted when the cylinder is full of coolant.
